About Shadow Tiers

What are Shadow Tiers?

Shadow Tiers were designed, specifically, for players who were spending lots of money buying individual credit packages.

Those players often gave feedback about wanting a more fluid and immersive experience, without worrying about their credits running out and having to buy more. Many players also gave feedback about how the monthly credits offered in the packages wasn’t enough for the entire month.

Thus, we created Shadow Tiers.

The prices of Shadow Tiers can be uncomfortable.

It’s important to know that Shadow Tiers are not the right option for the average player—not even the above average player.

Shadow Tiers provide unprecedented access to some of our most expensive models and context lengths, ensuring you get the most out of AI Dungeon, without having to buy extra credits throughout the month. However, most users don’t even approach the monthly usage that the average Shadow member has.

How to Sign Up

If you’d like to sign up for Shadow Tiers, you must do so from the web, as these are not available from the Android or iOS mobile apps. Only monthly plans are available for each Shadow Tier—there are no annual options or discounts.

If you already have an active subscription through Google or Apple, you must cancel this subscription first before signing up for a Shadow Tier.

What benefits do Shadow Tiers get?

There are four Shadow tiers—Wraith, Banshee, Reaper, and Apocalypse, in order of least expensive to most expensive.

Regular Benefits

The most important benefit a Shadow member gets is access to much more context than the regular plans. Each new tier doubles the context of the last tier (for models that can be doubled). If a model is 2k context on Mythic, then it’s 4k on Wraith, 8k on Banshee, 16k on Reaper, and 32k on Apocalypse. Some models may not be doubled if they are already at their maximum Context.

Additionally, like the normal tiers, Shadow tiers get more Memories, more Credits, and lower cost (sometimes even Free) Image Generation.

Shadow Clan

One special benefit that Shadow Tiers get access to is the ability to add other members to their ‘Clan’, sort of like a family plan. The Shadow Clan will grant them premium access to AI Dungeon at no additional cost to you or them. Anyone in your Shadow Clan will have premium access for as long as you’re a Shadow Tier member.

Adding a Shadow Clan member takes up a certain number of slots as determined by the plan you wish to give them—you have a number of slots as decided by your Shadow tier. A Champion plan counts for 1 slot, Legend counts for 2 slots, and Mythic counts for 3 slots.

If you’re a Shadow Tier member and would like to set up a Shadow Clan, simply click here to be taken to your Shadow Clan Settings. Or, while within the app or on the website, navigate to your Settings → Shadow Clan.

After you add someone to your Shadow Clan, they will receive and in-game notification detailing which plan they received and from who.

Shadow-Exclusive Discord Channel

In addition, you will also get access to a special channel on our Discord, where you can talk to other Shadow members (and also any members of your Shadow Clan).

To get access to this Discord channel, click here to be taken to your Shadow Clan Settings, or, while within the app or on the website, navigate to your Settings → Shadow Clan and connect your Discord account there.

Similarly, any of your Shadow Clan members can also get access to this Discord channel by clicking here to be taken to their linked account settings, or, while within the app or on the website, navigating to their Settings → Linked Accounts and connecting their Discord account there.

Why can’t I subscribe to Shadow Tiers on the App?

There are a few reasons why there isn’t native support for App Store purchasing:

By providing App Store support, we would have to misleadingly advertise having in-app purchases up to hundreds of dollars, even though most players would never need to think about subscribing to these tiers.
Purchases on the App Store aren’t always handled by us, which means the amount of support we can give to them is limited. We never want someone to buy these tiers and then struggle to receive support.
Finally, purchasing on the App Store adds on fees and taxes to the original price. These fees get bigger the larger the purchase—and these purchases are large. By only using Web payments, we can avoid unnecessarily taxing players.
