When we deprecated the Hero tier, we were working on a brand new platform called Heroes. We anticipated that the naming of Heroes would be confusing with our mid-level ($15/month) subscription tier, Hero.

Because of this, we simply renamed the Hero tier to Champion.

If you were subscribed to the Hero plan, there is no action necessary for you to transition to the Champion plan. Nothing else about the tier has changed.

We’ve now since switched the name of that platform to Voyage, meaning that this deprecation ended up not mattering much. Still, we think Champion is much more evocative name!

In the case of Adventurer, it’s a different story. When you have subscription tiers that go up incrementally in price, you expect to see a curve of distribution; more people should realistically be subscribed to the lowest tier, and less as you go up in price.

However, we found that many of our users preferred to subscribe to Champion over Adventurer, despite Adventurer being the cheapest tier. This is likely because the Adventurer tier was priced awkwardly, sitting at only 5 dollars a month less than Champion, but having half of the features and context that Champion receives. We figured that rather than lessening Champion’s benefits or lowering/raising the price arbitrarily, we would simply give Free players what Adventurer had, and deprecate the tier.

However, we will continue to provide support for it for as long as we still have subscribers. If you are or were subscribed to the Adventurer tier, you will continue to stay subscribed to it without any effort needed on your part, so long as you don’t switch or change your subscription.

For those of you who have wanted to play with the newest, most powerful models at the largest context sizes available, we introduced a larger subscription tier, Mythic. This new tier gives players access to Ultra AI models and context lengths up to 32k and beyond when using Credits.

In the past, we’ve shied away from offering more powerful models and extreme context lengths because there wasn’t a way to offer them to you without putting ourselves out of business. Powerful models (even with only 1k context length) are up to 120x more expensive than models we usually offer on our Free tier. Offering models with larger context lengths dramatically increases AI costs, as well.

We’ve explained this limitation to players over the last year or so, suggesting it could cost as much as $100/mo for a tier with 32k context for Premium models. Surprisingly, many of you have told us, “So what? I’d pay more if we could get access!” To that, we answered with Shadow Tiers.

In short, Mythic is NOT the right tier for most players. 32k context is absolutely absurd—that’s about 40 pages of text, and only our most dedicated players have adventures of that length. 128k context is even crazier, at 160-200 pages of text.

Ultra models are phenomenal. While they are unquestionably better and more powerful than Premium models, that performance level is only suited for more discerning players who value quality above all else and are willing to pay for the ability to use them.
