What kind of information does the AI gather?

In short, models on AI Dungeon will almost never gather your information.

To go a bit more in depth, AI gets all of its information from none other than the world wide web—it is trained on articles, books, movies, and all other public information on the internet.

However, all of this information has been already gathered at the time of the AI’s creation, and thus it can never really “learn” anything new. For instance, a model that was made in 2022 won’t know anything that happened in 2023.

The AI is capable of picking up on your writing patterns while you’re playing—but this information does not carry into other Adventures, and does not ever permanently enter its training data. If you start an Adventure about superheroes, and then start a different one about space, it won’t be able to tell you anything about your superheroes—but it might make an accurate guess! Any resemblance to other stories or personal information is purely coincidental.

This may not be the case for other websites, but AI Dungeon takes great effort to make sure that all of your data is private and stays that way, except in some cases. For instance, if you have have opted into ‘Improve the AI’ in your settings (off by default), your story text may be used to improve future model quality.
